Celebration

Grand Opening ~ Grand Finale - Aug 2009

I'm not in Africa anymore. . .

The swirling swaths of primary colors sliced through the air as a youth performing arts group stormed the stage and brought the Celebration Concert at Luther Centre to a close. Overhead, a field of stars (LED lights embedded in the ceiling) sparkled as the audience members (all 1000 of them) thundered in applause. It was a night to remember, a celebration of church history, and an auspicious start to my year here.

Throughout the evening, all in attendance were treated to performances from many of the LCMS' congregations. There was traditional music & pop, choirs of pastors & children, drama & dancing . . . oh the dancing. The multicultural nature of the LCMS was on full display as well, with Chinese, Nepalese, Aboriginal (Orang Asli), and Western threads woven throughout the performances. The artistic fruits of this church bear witness to its strength and vitality and have me excited for what the coming 52 weeks have in store for me.

What an introduction!
