Words I've Been Waiting For . . .

Kenya Airways: The Pride of Africa

"The U.S. Department of Education has approved your attendance at the program in Mombasa . . ."
The best beginning to an e-mail. Ever.
Time to cough up the cash, buy the ticket, and get set for 3 months in East Africa. My tentative itinerary has me flying out of NYC on May 31 and returning, with a week of summer to spare, on August 28.
Wow. I can't believe this is actually playing out. You talk and scheme and daydream and hope and pray and trust and wait and then, lo and behold, things work out.
Huh. And to think . . . a year ago to the day, the Thursday before Easter, was when I followed that tug-in-my-heart and chose New Haven over that school in Cambridge. Who would've imagined that it would lead here?
Life is too good. Safari Njema & all that jazz . . .

You might not believe this is all working out, but I (like many of your friends) never doubted it.

so, mr. peter, what will you be doing in East Africa? I am very happy for you. Grants are always fun. I'm waiting for my money to come in at this moment. But I am leaving for 14 months, oh, the journey is about to begin.
