Getting Oriented by Campfire - July 2009

'Why would you go there?'

Over the past couple of weeks this is a questions that has never really been asked - and believe me, when you are being oriented 24/7 for three straight weeks with more or less the same group of people there is plenty of time for lots of Q&A.

If the question like that came up, it would likely be rephrased as ' Why wouldn't you go there? or, even likelier, 'Ooooh . . . how can I get there?'

Being in the midst of a diverse, yet similarly globally-minded community has been one of the highlights of orientation for me. Sharing stories and experiences with others who are trying to find their place in the wider world has been particularly inspiring. Wrestling with questions of missiology, of companionship, and of sustainability with a group of peers has been motivating. These are the conversations and this is the type of community I've been yearning for over the past few years.

How refreshing is has been to have finally arrived, for the time being at least, in this vocational homeland of sorts.
