Road Trippin

The View For Most of The Past Week, visiting 5 schools in 5 days.

Winding Mountain Roads Through the Western Udzungwas

Roads Could Be Treacherous At Times

We took group pictures for sponsors back in St. Paul and surveyed the sites. Sixty boys sleep in this dorm at Idete . . .

Five per room/stall. It was pretty rough. Msaada is needed here.

The Headmaster Rules over Pomerin Secondary School.

He runs a pretty serious show. Again, pretty rough.

Being able to meet (and chat) with the students was awesome though. These three guys at Bomalang'ombe, sponsred by SOTV, were great to hang around with. They really feel a connection with their sponsors back in the U.S. and want more folks to come meet them. While many students face huge challenges getting into and then attending school, they love being where they are and are extremely grateful for the opportunity to be learning at all.
It is all so very humbling and challenging for a wazungu fortunate enough to attend the second wealthiest school on the world . . . who's annual budget likely dwarfs that of the entire nation of Tanzania. So very humbling and yet oddly inspiring.

I envy you, Peter. It looks like you're enjoying great experiences.

Back here? Ch-ch-ch-changes. Kristy's out of Highland Apts at the end of the month and I'm helping Steph move to NY around the same time, too. Crazy.

Have fun!

Petro,
The conditions at Idete...words cannot express my sadness! Is this the worst? I pray it is.

You are painting wonderful pictures with words. How did Head/Shoulders/Knees/Toes fit in with the Gospel of the day, anyway? (kiddin')

Thanks for the blogs -- I look forward to seeing you in MN this fall.

Bonnie
