Full Days

Farewell Dinner - Aug 13, 2010

I just had my final round of WonTon Mee with Bishop Lok at one of the Hawker Centers on the PJ NewTown Square. Accompanied by a glass of Teh Ice, it was simple and satisfying. The conversation, remembering and reflecting on my time with Luther House Chapel, was a helpful step in the process of bringing closure to the year.

It was but the latest in a string of goodbyes and good meals that I've been able to celebrate and share with my new-found Malaysian (& Nepali) Brothers and Sister. It was preceded by Monday night's Kajang Sate, Tigers on the street and filling lunch of spicy Nonya Food. Before that, of course, there was also: a steaming round of Bak Kut Teh; massive buffet at Luther House; Glorine's home cooking for a house warming; old school Hainanese; a farewell dinner/banquet; and on and on and on.

Through this week-long marathon of meals, my stomach has been expanded by the tasty delights and my soul has been stretched by the relationships I have formed here. As a result of this feasting and fellowship, I am beyond full.

With my face now set toward my family and my homeland, I know that I'll be returning there a changed person - carrying with me a whole host of memories (and a couple extra kgs) that will remain for years to come.

For all those who have shared their time, their stories, and their lives with me these past 355 days, all I can say is "Terima Kasih" from the bottom of my heart.

And, since 'Goodbye' sounds too permanent, I'll leave you (for now) with Sampai Jumpa Lagi . . .
