Meet the Haven

The Haven, Meet the Parents.
The Parents, Meet the Haven.

I sometimes forget that I attend a world-class university -quite the 'to-do' when you come from the 'sha. Having the folks around and seeing the Haven through their eyes*has reminded me to appreciate the resources/wonders/oddities around me on a daily basis.

*i'm breaking form here and posting mostly pictures my mom has taken

Ivy Really Does Grow Here. How Appropriate.

Lots of Creepy Gothic Towers and Gargoyles, like this Robber carved on the Yale School of Law Building.

Then there is 'the Gute' - or, as the rest of the world and history books everywhere call it, the Gutenberg Bible.

The Peabody Museum has more than a gift store with high quality plastic dinosaurs. It also has a giant squid [made of papier mache I think] hanging over the lobby. How trendy . . . Squid is So Hot these days.

Then there is the fabled crypt of Skull and Bones. Ooooh-Aaaaaah. Scary. One wonders what kind of shenaningans our current President got into behind those locked doors. . .

They also spent a day out at Mystic before heading to the recently dethroned former largest casino in the world, Foxwoods. [Unless you are the 'rents, then it is Foxfire]

Fresh seafood was also a must. No need to fly the lobster and mussels in, Lenny's Lobster is just a stone's throw away from the ocean.

Lobster: 'eating it is like a little mystery adventure.'
Fried Seafood Feast: Tasty. But heavy. Too heavy for delicate midwest sensibilities.

True to form, while they enjoyed the sights and activities of the city, my folks found solace and happiness in nature. From the salt marshes . . .

. . . to the butterflies . . .

. . . and on to the omni-present 'naughty' seagulls. Good times all around.
